Juanes titula su nuevo álbum "P.A.R.C.E"

MIAMI (AP) — Juanes reveló el martes el nombre y fecha de lanzamiento de su nuevo disco: "P.A.R.C.E", 7 de diciembre.

"P.A.R.C.E", producido por el superastro colombiano junto al británico Stephen Lipson, es su quinto álbum de estudio.

"Aquí les va pues, el nombre de mi nuevo álbum es 'P.A.R.C.E' en diciembre!!", escribió Juanes a sus seguidores en su página de Twitter.

"P.A.R.C.E" significa parcero, una expresión colombiana que utilizan los jóvenes y que significa amigo.

Juanes se encuentra en España promocionando la producción, de la que ya ha lanzado los sencillos "Y no regresas" y "Yerbatero".

En las próximas semanas viajará a Estados Unidos para hacer promoción en Miami, Nueva York, Puerto Rico y Los Angeles, y con el mismo fin visitará México, Colombia y Argentina.

Lipson ha trabajado con artistas como los Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox y U2, entre otros

México, 26 Oct. (Notimex).- Después de lanzar su disco "Sin fronteras/borderless", el mexicano Gonzalo ganó como Cantautor del Año en Los Angeles Music Awards 2010, que serán entregados el 18 de noviembre próximo, por su tema en inglés "If every day were a friday".

En entrevista con Notimex detalló que hace tres meses fue nominado a estos galardones de música independiente como Cantautor del Año y Disco del Año, en el género Adulto Contemporáneo. "Fui a las votaciones y me dieron la noticia de que gané en una categoría".

Resaltó que para él significa mucho, porque es un premio importante porque es estadunidense y le puede abrir las puertas en el mercado anglosajón, "además los organizadores no saben que soy mexicano".

"Me siento afortunado de ganar un premio en el que también fueron nominados The Black Eyed Peas y No Doubt. Me siento bendecido y motivado a continuar tocando, tanto en inglés como en español, porque (el disco) contiene canciones en los dos idiomas."

Comentó que para ser parte de estos premios, como en todos, mandó el álbum, "pero el resultado ya es del destino, cuando supe que estaba nominado pensé que era una tomada de pelo, pero chequé que en el pasado ya habían entregado a importantes grupos cuando iniciaban".

Gonzalo afirmó que es un aliciente para su carrera. "Es el esfuerzo de mis amigos y familia que me apoyaron para realizar este sueño, que me impulsaron, dejé la carrera de psicología y ahora estoy haciendo lo que realmente me gusta, que es cantar y componer".

Indicó que en México la gente lo ha aceptado muy bien, "incluso no me la creo, escriben diario en mi página, las ventas, tanto físicas como de manera digital están altas, me lo piden. Estoy platicando con disqueras interesadas, pero hasta que no vean el premio internacional no tocaré puertas.

"Me ha costado mucho trabajo aquí en México, a pesar de que he recibido una respuesta muy interesante por Internet, hasta 100 mensajes por día", puntualizó.

La cantante se presentará por tercera ocasión en el Auditorio Nacional el 21 de noviembre próximo

México, 26 Oct. (Notimex).- Participar en un Festival Viña del Mar y grabar un disco de ranchero, son algunos de los sueños que a la cantante Yuridia le gustaría cumplir, luego de que se presente por tercera ocasión en el Auditorio Nacional el 21 de noviembre próximo.

En conferencia de prensa indicó que hay muchas cosas que desea realizar, como editar un disco en inglés y hacer una gira por Estados Unidos, por lo que celebró que aún tenga tiempo para llevarlas a cabo.

Abundó que "me gustaría hacer un disco de ranchero porque a mí me trae recuerdos muy especiales, me gustaría cantar y bailar flamenco, viajar a Argentina, para hacer una gira y estamos a tiempo para lograrlo".

En cuanto al concierto que ofrecerá en el "Coloso de Reforma", dijo que cantará los temas de su más reciente material discográfico "Nada es color de rosa", así como otros en inglés y posiblemente tenga como invitado especial al español David Bisbal.

La cantante, quien no sabe si iniciará en breve una gira por la República Mexicana, indicó que muchas veces la gente cree que es fácil lograr el éxito que la rodea actualmente.

"Después del auditorio ya marcaría como otra gira y para mí es un gran logro estar aquí, no es algo que me haya caído del cielo, ha sido muy difícil y hay muchos sacrificios que se tiene que hacer, pero todo ha valido la pena", subrayó.

Sobre la venta de boletos para su concierto, de la cual se decía iba muy baja, aseguró no saber nada, pero expresó que le beneficio el cambio de fecha, que pasó del 7 al 21 de noviembre, porque le dieron 15 días más para afinar detalles de la presentación y será hasta el día del espectáculo cuando se entere de cuántas entradas vendió.

En cuanto a los ataques de la prensa, indicó que ha sabido llevar la relación y ahora prefiere no hacer mucho caso de lo que se llega a publicar de ella, ya sea bueno o malo, por lo que prefiere no hacer caso de los rumores.

Yuridia, quien saltó a la fama por participar en la cuarta edición del "reality show" de "La academia", consideró llevar una vida normal con su hijo Phoenix, a quien nunca le ha negado el nombre de su padre, Edgar Guerrero, con quien la cantante tuvo un romance.

"He sido muy afortunada de estar con personas que entienden que antes de ser artista soy mamá, además llevo un equilibrio en mi vida, yo no suplo la figura paterna, mi hijo tiene un papá y se llama Edgar Guerrero y se comunican, él está al pendiente de lo que le falta, obviamente no estamos juntos pero él siempre está para mi hijo", subrayó.

Asimismo, aseguró que aún mantiene su relación con Matías, a quien dijo amar mucho, tras lo cual resaltó que tiene en claro que ella es cantante y no actriz, razón por la cual ha descartado participar en la televisión.

Yuridia, recordó cuando era parte del programa que la lanzó al estrellato y destacó que pareciera como si no hubiera pasado el tiempo y se hubiera quedado en los 18 años, edad en la que comenzó su carrera artística.

"Cambió drásticamente mi vida, antes de entrar al programa iba a la escuela y de ahí a mi casa y nunca salí de fiesta, era muy tímida y aún lo soy, esto se me hace muy raro y complicado, cambio totalmente", indicó.

Yuridia, ha sido acreedora a dos Discos de Diamante y tres de Platino por los álbumes "La voz de un ángel" y "Habla el corazón", además de otro de Platino y uno de Oro por "Entre mariposas".

Okay, I was going to make this post about Jennifer Lopez, and then I saw these photos of Halle Berry. Halle, Jennifer and many other celebrities came out last night for The Carousel of Hope Ball. Halle looked amazing in this gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent, even more amazing than she’s recently been looking, in my opinion. What could be the reason for her excessive beauty and hotness? This guy:

DAMN HALLE. This isn’t just sex, y’all. Halle actually has feelings for her Frenchman. That sex must be so good, I can’t even imagine. There must be a lot of biting. And spanking. And handcuffs. I mean… THIS is the sex tape I want to see.

On to Jennifer Lopez. I actually think Jennifer looks really pretty here. Good hair, good makeup, the dress is… not my style, but I think she looks really sexy in it. Marc even looks nice. I’m glad he’s not wearing his sunglasses.

One question though: did Jennifer get something done to her lips? Or is that just a really great lipstick? It feels like her lips are slightly enlarged from collagen or something.

The internet went ablaze yesterday over the rumor that singer Beyonce was pregnant. Everyone reported that an anonymous source informed someone who told everyone else, that she was in her first trimester. Immediately, I knew that this rumor was untrue for several reasons that were drawn from common sense. Now, I am not saying that she will never have a baby, but I don’t think it will be any time soon. 1.Beyonce is a 29 year old married woman. With that being said, I’m sure she is not a virgin and as clue less as the media likes to make her, she knows the fundamentals of what it takes to become pregnant. Therefore, I’m sure by now she is on some type of birth control or contraceptive to prevent that from just suddenly happening.

3.The quotes that were used to confirm the pregnancy were from her sister Solange but they were old. These were quotes Solange made about Beyonce years ago in regards to the question of whether or not Beyonce would be a good mother one day. Naturally, Solange thinks she will be.

4.Every year about this time, rumors emerge that Beyonce is pregnant. It’s like the media wants her to drop a kid more than she wants to have one. I don’t know if they want it so badly because they want to see what the kid will look like, or they want a break from her. Either way, yearly around this time, this exact rumor rears its ugly head.

5. Lastly, it does not seem that Beyonce is in a rush to become a Mother. She seems to currently be very invested in nurturing her career and for now, that appears to be her baby.

Techcrunch announced earlier this week that Google is launching Open Social (URL will apparently go live later today) - a new set of APIs that will facilitate the transfer of data in and out of of social networks. Specifically:

Profile Information (user data)
Friends Information (social graph)
Activities (things that happen, News Feed type stuff)

I think this is potentially a very big deal for the same reasons that I think the Flock people sidebar is a big deal - namely that it reduces or eliminates the benefits of having all your friends in the same social network. Instead you can compartmentalise your identity and use a social network aggregator service which gives you a single view of all your friends across multiple networks. Flock does this today for Facebook and Twitter, and out of the gate Open Social will support Orkut, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Ning, Hi5, Plaxo, Friendster, Viadeo and Oracle.

The other benefit is for application developers who will no longer have to write different versions of their application for different social networks.

For Open Social to be truly successful it will need the two largest networks to play ball. Most of the benefits will be lost if Myspace and Facebook refuse to support the standard - and this is something they might well do - as David Spark points out:

If you’ve got a popular product built on proprietary technology, defend your position. There’s no point in opening it up to allow others in. …… Disney doesn’t cough up Mickey Mouse’s image for anyone who wants it. Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T spent a lot of money on their networks and acquiring customers. You didn’t see any of them getting so excited about having to open it up for all to use on the 700 MHz spectrum. Telcos defend their position by forcing customers into multi-year contracts. Microsoft defends its position by making its software work just a little bit better on its own products rather than competing products. And Disney just sues everyone into oblivion who tries to appropriate Mickey’s image.

Facebook will be in a difficult position though. On the one hand they have positioned themselves as the champion of open-ness, but on the other hand they probably have the most to lose from going open. Plus they have Microsoft in their corner who has a history of exploiting dominant positions by remaining closed and won’t want to see Facebook co-operating with Google.

It will be really interesting to see how this plays out. There are big bucks at stake and it could decide the difference between a social network future dominated by one or two huge brands (probably Myspace and Facebook) or one where there is space for a larger number of decent sized companies.

Estas fotografías están generando un gran revuelo entre la gente. Están los que consideran que hacer una aparición de este estilo desprestigia la imagen del ejército, mientras que otros opinan que no hay relación alguna.

La soldado declaró que “una es militar con uniforme y sin él. El ejército es un sentimiento, una pasión, mi vida”.

Pilar Pacheco tiene sólo 26 años de edad y se alistó al ejército ni bien cumplió la mayoría. Esta es la primer aparición pública de una soldado que realmente no tiene nada para envidiarle a las mejores modelos del mundo.

Pilar, una española de 26 años, cumplió su sueño de posar como Dios la trajo al mundo en una conocida revista. “El reportaje ha causado sensación en el cuartel”, afirmó la militar del cuerpo envidiable. Su nombre es Pilar Pacheco y cumplió su sueño de posar desnuda para la revista Interviú a los 26 años de edad.

“El reportaje ha causado sensación en el cuartel, mis compañeros están admirados. Pero es normal, porque yo no soy famosa y les ha sorprendido mucho. Todos me felicitan y dicen que he salido muy guapa en las fotos”, indicó la morocha en diálogo con elmundo.es.“Nunca me había planteado ser famosa ni nada de eso, aunque reconozco que me gusta ponerme delante de la cámara. Interviú me ofreció hacer el reportaje y a mí me pareció buena idea. Ha sido un privilegio y un regalo de Reyes por adelantado“, sostuvo Pacheco.La joven ingresó al ejército a los 18 años y en la actualidad se desempeña como empleada administrativa.

Todavía no se sabe si habrá pena alguna a Pacheco por parte de la Comandancia Militar. ¿Repercutirá realmente en la imágen del ejército una sesión de fotos de este estilo? Realmente no lo sabemos.

Nobel Peace Prize goes to Al Gore, IPCC for work on climate change

As Nobel Prize week winds down, the final award is the Peace Prize. This year, the award went to a person and an organization: Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The award cited "their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change." The winners had been rumored for months, and certainty about the recipients' identity rose as the date of the award neared. Still, there are a number of surprising aspects about the win that are worth discussing.

The first is simply the fact that, in a world with several ongoing wars and insurgencies, the Peace Prize has gone to work on a topic that's largely been relegated to the science and business sections of the news. The prize committee's reasoning was that uncontrolled climate change poses a severe threat to future peace, and thus that the winners were acting to prevent conflicts prophylactically. Climate change "may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources," reads the citation. "Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states."

One of the factors that is likely to heighten any controversies surrounding this award is that both the IPCC and Gore's film are generally recognized to be somewhat flawed, if well intentioned. The IPCC has been preparing reports based on the current scientific findings and consensus for nearly two decades. But that consensus is the product of the general scientific community, and the views of scientists on most topics cover a broad spectrum. As such, the IPCC's efforts to put hard probabilities on various aspects of climate change has left them open to accusations of glossing over complexities.

And those are just the issues with the science. Most press accounts and governmental decisions focus less on the scientific bodies of the IPCC reports (which can run hundreds of pages), and more on the summaries for policy makers. These summary documents are meant to reduce the science to easy-to-digest statements about the key facts. Unfortunately, they're hashed out at contentious meetings that include both scientists and diplomats from the UN membership and sometimes run all night before agreements are reached. In the end, the most commonly discussed pieces of IPCC reports are as much the product of diplomatic compromises as they are the product of the underlying science.

Meanwhile, the award to Al Gore came on the same week that a judge in the UK officially declared parts of his film, An Inconvenient Truth, to be scientifically inaccurate. Most of the issues cited appear to be the product of the typical challenges that come with the simplifications needed to popularize science and the inability for speakers on a strict time limit to discuss the intricacies of a complex topic. Gore could have done better, but the same can be said for many scientists that try to produce similar works for popular audiences.

In the end, the court decision focused on subtle and dry scientific issues—what percentage of the loss of some glaciers is the result of higher temperatures, and what is due to changes in precipitation patterns? The fact that this sort of science has become the subject of court cases that make headlines around the world is really what Gore and the IPCC are being cited for. Getting the public to recognize any complex scientific issue is a challenge. Climate change has implications that are primarily decades in the future, while acting on it requires lifestyle changes in the present, both of which add to the difficulty of motivating the public to action.

It was a bit of a surprise to see a topic with largely scientific and technological underpinnings receive the Peace Prize. But following the reasoning of the Nobel Committee suggests it may not be the last. As humanity's technological advances increase its ability to alter the world around it, the potential for scientific findings to have implications for the future peace will only increase as well.

Doris Lessing Wins the Nobel Prize

Doris Lessing won the Nobel Prize for Literature today.

You can read the Reuters story about it here and the New York Times piece here.

The Times piece has a great photo of her sitting on her front steps in London, surrounded by reporters. She was apparently out shopping when it was announced, and learned of the prize from the reporters when she returned home.

The Swedish Academy described her as: "the epicist of the female experience, who with skepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilization to scrutiny."

Lessing is 88 years old and I've always thought she rocked. The Times article mentions how she never finished high school and educated herself through reading. I bought a copy of The Golden Notebook, her seminal work, this summer at the beach, and this edition has an introduction Lessing wrote in which she describes the benefits of this type of education.

I always loved the idea of The Golden Notebook, because it is the story of a woman becoming whole. Anna, the heroine, keeps four notebooks. The black one is about her early years in Africa; the red one about her political life (chiefly communism, which seems rather quaint now); the yellow contains a novel she is writing and the blue one is her diary. By the end of the book she has brought all four threads together into one golden notebook.

I'm still trying to get all my various notebooks into one. Let's see, I've got two green ones, a purple polka dot one, a purple striped one, one with a black over and blue letters saying "journal" on the cover, one with a brown cover that started life as a sketchbook....and those are just the ones I can glance quickly around and see. I think I love my notebooks way too much to coordinate them into one.

But I digress. The Golden Notebook has inspired legions of feminists. The Academy noted: "The burgeoning feminist movement saw it as a pioneering work and it belongs to the handful of books that informed the 20th century view of the male-female relationship."

So it is interesting to me that the two males that I've mentioned Lessing's name to today have never heard of her.

Lessing also writes science fiction upon occasion, and I'm sure that has the knickers of the literary establishment in a twist. I adore science fiction myself.

John Edwards Scandal?

So, we have a story which is slowly seeping into public life - rumours of an affair by Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards. Now, naturally, the National Enquirer isn't, in and of itself, sufficent proof of anything - but there's a little more on this. Just for a start, Mickey Kaus seems to be pretty sure of it .

Most of the speculation swirls around a woman named Rielle Hunter (a forty-four year-old filmmaker, formerly named Lisa Druck). A few weeks ago, Sam Stein over at the Huffington Post began asking questions about the odd disappearance of a series of web videos that she directed for the Edwards Campaign - making $114,461 in the process.

All of this is interesting in that it ties back into a brief item that ran on Page Six in the New York Post about a month and a half ago:

WHICH political candidate enjoys visiting New York because he has a girlfriend who lives downtown? The pol tells her he'll marry her when his current wife is out of the picture.

Leaving aside the grim implications of anticipating a moment when "his current wife is out of the picture" - there's this from an interview posted on Ms. Hunter's recently-deleted website ("RH" is Ms. Hunter):

JM: But I'm saying it's more extreme. I'm just curious why...

RH: ...I'm in New York?

JM: I suppose our reasons could overlap. Let me give you an example. Here in New York, a premium is placed on what I do. It's one of the few places in the country where being a writer is respected and admired.

RH: Oh so you're here for the love�for the recognition and the love?

JM: It's not why I'm here. I'm playing devil's advocate. But I like being here more than in LA, partly because in LA what I do is not terribly highly valued. So you tell me what you're doing, and I would think it's not particularly valued here in New York.

RH: What you were just saying is very human. We're naturally going to be drawn to places where we're loved.

Now, obviously, there are a lot of women in New York - and this is nothing more than circumstantial. But, still, it's interesting.

The Enquirer article, which holds back the name of the woman alleged to be involved, mentions that:

"The affair started about 18 months ago," a friend says the woman confessed to her. "When they met at a bar, sparks flew immediately.

Now, of course, there are a lot of politicians and women that this could apply to. But, what's interesting, is in a Newsweek article from last December:

The Webisodes are the brainchild of Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker who met Edwards at a New York bar where Edwards was having a business meeting.

Actually, in view of what's being discussed now, this (from the same article) is probably even more amusing:

In the midst of a short theme sequence that begins each Webisode, the camera lingers over the former senator's behind as he tucks a starched white shirt into his pants.

So, what we have here is circumstantial - but it strikes me as pretty strong.

1) We have rumours of an affair going back sometime. The first public hints appear as far back as August.

2) What circumstantial details we have - New York, meeting in a bar, wife anticipated to be out of the picture - match up here.

3) We have a strange and rushed effort to cover up these entirely innocuous videos - with the Edwards campaign attempting to control access to them.

4) We have a mystery party archiving these videos and then later anonymously releasing them - indicating that someone knew enough about something to decide to keep a copy of these things lying around just in case.

Now, I'll note, I don't think that this has any real bearing on John Edwards ability to be President. I think that John Edwards should't be President because he's a scum-sucking, ambulance chasing fraud and phony, not because he might be cheating on his cancer-stricken wife

GM Plans Cadillac Version of the Volt

Cadillac will be making a couple of changes to its lineup as they get serious about their place in the luxury market in the future. With the new redesigned 2008 Cadillac CTS, Cadillac is seriously considering revamping its entire lineup. So what’s in the works?

Remember the baby rear-wheel-drive Cadillac we’ve been talking about? Well that has been confirmed with the published summary of UAW’s labor contracts with GM. The new small rear-wheel-drive car will give Cadillac more ground to compete with the 3-Series and C-Class. A Cadillac CTS coupe and wagon variant have also been confirmed for 2009.

In September we were told that Cadillac will drop the DTS and STS and replace it by a premium-luxury sedan. Well that car will be built on GM’s new rear-wheel-drive architecture called Alpha.

Alpha “is really critical to Cadillac becoming more global,” says one source familiar with GM’s product plans. The Alpha architecture will also be used on the small rear-wheel-drive Caddy that will be positioned below the CTS.

Latest rumors have been saying that GM will not use the Chevrolet badge on its new plug-in hybrid called the Volt. Well according to new findings by Automotive News, GM will go ahead with the Chevrolet Volt but is also considering a fuel-cell version of the E-Flex plug-in hybrid powertrain for a new Cadillac.

Let’s not forget Cadillac is also considering hybrids for its entire lineup.

We had an opportunity to drive the new 2008 Cadillac CTS the other day at a GM event out in Milford at the General's test center. While we were impressed with the ride, interior and the performance -- it still had us wanting for more power. Specifically, we wanted to know what a V-series of Caddy's newest entry-level sedan would be like. It now looks like we'll be waiting until 2009 to see the new Cadillac CTS-V. At least that's what we're to understand in the following spy report and shots from Brenda Priddy's made man, Chris Doane. The details include a new supercharged small-block V8 good for at least 500 HP, with a number of between 515 and 525 HP not only possible but our sources tell us, probable. What we're also hearing is the new CTS-V will feature a supercharger integrated into the intake manifold, the same setup we'll be seeing on the upcoming Corvette ZR1. Production's set to start on this new supercharged Caddy in September of next year. Full report from Chris after the jump.

Spy Photos - 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

The 2009 CTS-V will use the "LSA" motor. This is another new supercharged, small block V8. This new blown V8 will be good for at least 500hp. A number of 515-525hp may even be possible, and even higher numbers have been rumored.

The CTS-V will feature a supercharger integrated into the intake manifold. This is the same setup the upcoming Corvette SS / Blue Devil will have with its LS9 motor. However, while the Corvette SS motor will be hand built at the Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI, the Cadillac's LSA motor will be built in a conventional motor plant.

Automatic and manual transmissions will be available, and an optional paddle shift feature is also anticipated.

Production on the new CTS V-Series will start in September of 2008, and will be limited to about 7000 units annually. Internally, GM is referring to the car as "GMX322 V S/C."

In the past, the current CTS-V has suffered from rear-end problems. Specifically, wheel hop. The 2009 CTS-V will feature a completely re-done rear end with a much better rear axle. Sources say this has eliminated the wheel hop issue altogether.

The '09 will continue to utilize a massive set of brembo brakes up front and in back. While the wheels on this prototype are not production spec, the wider tires and larger exhaust pipes certainly are.

The New York Times brought the sad news this morning that Liam Rector, distinguished poet and educator, shot himself on Wednesday morning at his home in Greenwich Village at the age of 57. According to his bio posted at Poets.org, Rector "was born in Washington, D.C., in 1949. He received an M.A. from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University and an M.P.A. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard."

"Rector taught at Columbia University, The New School, Emerson College, George Mason University, and elsewhere. He founded and directed the graduate Writing Seminars at Bennington College, and administered literary programs at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Academy of American Poets."

"His books of poems include The Executive Director of the Fallen World, American Prodigal and The Sorrow of Architecture. His work has also appeared in a variety of distinguished literary publications including Agni, Paris Review, American Poetry Review, Boston Review, and Ploughshares."

His contributions to the literary community will be sorely missed.

Very sad to hear that Liam Rector has died, apparently by his own hand. Looking at this 2001 poem of his from The Cortland Review, I suppose we can't say we weren't warned.

Was surfing the net just now when I came across this on tomorrow.sg.This 2LT Li Hongyi apparently emailed a letter of complaint to some some people who had no business knowing it, and the recipients included some big shots like the Defence Minister, Chief of Defence and Chief of Army. Then I realised that this was on the news yesterday. Well, jumping the chain of command is something we do hear of now and then during our time in NS, so it’s nothing earth-shattering. We’re frequently reminded not to do it, so it must take something extra to send the email to the people in the top echelon of SAF. Either you’ve got extra guts, or you’re extra stupid, or you’re extra equal. As it turns out, Li Hongyi is PM Lee Hsien Loong’s second son. That complicates matters somewhat.

He did the right thing
The letter, with important names and details blanked out out, are reproduced on The States Times and Simply Jean , among other blogs. My first thought is, he did the right thing. He saw the injustice in his unit and he took action to correct it. Even if he did it because he was aggrieved, there is no doubt what LTA X did, or that his superiors trying to cover up for LTA X, were wrong. I think a lot of us have witnessed unjust acts during our NS stints, but were impeded by powerlessness or fear of retribution, so we did not report it.

While some have offered the view that Li Hongyi might have breached the Official Secrets Act (OSA), but I’m not sure about that. It is grossly inappropriate to email the Defence Minister or Chief of Defence Force, but they belong to the same branch in the hierarchy, hence it is not outside of their authority. Jumping the chain of command, but there’s nothing else there. On the other hand, he did email to a whole lot of other people as well. Who they are, I can’t tell, but with this kind of letter, you’ll suppose he’ll be wiser not to mass-mail loads of people about it. But the leaking of this email to the public definitely amounts to a breach of the OSA. I’m sure SAF is conducting an internal investigation about this leak right now.

Chain of command suppresses the reporting of problems
The whole idea of this chain of command thing reinforces the perception that you’ll have to work your way up the chain to air your grievance, and if somewhere along the chain some superior judges that your case is frivolous or something, you’ll meet with some undesirable consequences. Given that there is little information about what proper channels are available (especially for the those not in leadership positions), and that there is a lot of hearsay about the ineffectiveness of things like the SAF hotline and being blacklisted for reporting certain stuff, it’s no surprise that a lot of servicemen face a lot of problems but don’t voice out, due to ignorance and fear.

An important issue is the attitude of the commanders in leading their men. Can they command the trust of the men? How serious do they view the problems reported to them? From a typical , corporal-and-below point-of-view the whole channel of redressing grievances fail when one or two commanders in the chain belittle or mishandle your problem. If your commander fails you, are you confident that your problem will be given different treatment from another commander whom you always see him hanging around with in the officer mess or at the canteen?

Check your recipient list and think twice before hitting the SEND button
It’s very easy to just add people to the recipient list and send the emails out to them, but it’s very easy to come back and haunt you as well. Some of my camp-mates sent out emails complaining about some other people just before they ORD, and some of these emails were circulated like crazy. We do bitch a lot among ourselves about people who slack or don’t do their area cleaning or some problem with our superiors, but it’s a different matter to put it down in writing. And once it’s written, digitally or otherwise, you’ll want it to reach the hands of the right people, not people who treat it as something to talk about over canteen break.

Amy Polumbo, better known as Miss New Jersey, will get to keep her crown, officials decided this Thursday. Polumbo recently went public with pictures that show her acting, “not in a ladylike manner.” Polumbo, clearly thrilled with pageant officials decision, blew kisses to her audience as she said, “I’m very happy about this decision, and I look forward to resuming my agenda as Miss New Jersey.” Polumbo did apologize for the stir the pictures had created and thanked the pageant board for its support. She also offered thanks of a higher order. “I want to thank the public,” said Polumbo. “I also want to thank God for getting me through this.”

The photos seem a good bit less provocative than other leaked pictures we’ve seen, most notably those of American Idol contestant Antonella Barba. Polumbo’s pictures include a shot of her boyfriend biting her breast through her shirt, and another of Polumbo riding in a limousine with her legs spread in the air. The last shot shows Miss New Jersey in a Halloween costume holding two pumpkins over her breasts. The 22-year old Miss America representative was also criticized for pictures in which she was drinking, though she claimed the shots were taken when she was of legal age.

The photos were reportedly set to be leaked by a person or persons claiming to be The Committee to Save Miss America. The entire pageant industry has come under close public scrutiny, as more and more of its contestants have leaked photos, addictions, and various other imperfections. Hollywood jumped into the fray with the indie release gone super hit Little Miss Sunshine, which attempts to crack the porcelain face of youth pageantry. Nicole Richie is still a free woman – for now. Thanks to another delay in her ongoing court case, the female celebrity and on and off again gal pal of Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie was able to travel to incognito on Tuesday to
Canada.

Richie accompanied her boyfriend Joel Madden to Canada where his band Good Charlotte was giving a rock concert, while her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, was in court arguing in her defense on the same day.

Previously, Ms Holley had filed a declaration signed by Nicole stating she was contesting the authenticity of the drug test results taken at the time of her arrest in December 2006. The request for delaying the trial was based on the absence of their star witness, Dr. Terence McGee, a well-known medical expert who would be out of the country until August 5th. The defense is counting on him to refute the findings of the police reports.

This request, however, has been denied and the court date was set for July 11. We understand that there is a window of starting dates for trials, which means they officially have up to ten days after today to begin.

Meanwhile, the judge may well order Nicole to catch the next flight out, return to L.A., and be ready to appear for sentencing. Will she have to spend time in jail is now the question.

It seems that the law is finally handing out harsher sentences, and being a celebrity hasn’t made a difference. It certainly didn’t for Paris Hilton, Nicole’s co-star on the reality show Simple Life.

Of course, Nicole’s pregnancy is not likely to be a factor as she wouldn’t be the first female to be pregnant and in jail at the same time. She has put up a brave front, telling David Letterman the other night that she is fully prepared to face the consequences, whatever they may be.

If convicted as a repeat offender, Nicole Richie faces a minimum sentence of three years’ probation and up to three months in jail. However, California law does stipulate that if a plea bargain is accepted, then the jail time is dropped to four days.

It is expected today that Richie’s attorney will be appearing in court to accept or reject the current plea bargain offered up by the prosecutor. It’s our guess that Nicole Richie will breathe a sigh of relief and accept the terms of probation, leaving her the time she needs to prepare for the baby’s arrival some time this summer.

She insists that what we see is real, no implants, no reconstruction. The only thing she is doing, however, is working out on a regular basis with personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, for her upcoming movie role.

They’re concentrating on emphasizing the booty and toning those natural curves, much like she did for her role as Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazard. Jessica is fine with having lots of curves, and can’t identify at all with the ultra-thin figures of other models and film stars. After all, she says – curves are good for the heart and the mind – aren’t they what the guys prefer?

Whether she decides to have a little maintenance work done in the future or not, Jessica looks fabulous now and will no doubt look good at any age. We’ll get to see more of those curves after she unveils her swim wear line in Miami this weekend.

She has, of course, previous experience of both – her self titled solo album was a top ten hit in the UK and she appeared in the Spice Girls movie Spiceworld.

Instead, the singer is going to concentrate on own fashion business designing and selling jeans, sunglasses and perfume.

"Bañeros 3.Todopoderosos", la serie escrita por Salvador Valverde Calvo y Salvador Valverde Freire, tiene su prolongación de la mano de los tres ex "Tinelli’s Boys", dirigidos por Rodolfo Ledo, quien ya prepara la cuarta película. En los ’80 esta serie fue protagonizada por Guillermo Francella, Alberto Fernández de Rosa, Emilio Disi y Gino Renni, y sólo los dos últimos sobreviven, aunque acompañando a los nuevos comediantes. A pesar de que los filmes fueron destrozados por la crítica, lograron un éxito de taquilla que, con el correr del tiempo, los amantes del cine bizarro terminaron tornándolo de culto. Al igual que los dos largometrajes iniciales, esta tercera versión de "Bañeros..." apunta al público infantil y "a la familia", según aseguró Pachu Peña. La película, carece de los efectos especiales modernos que tanto buscan los chicos en el cine, y que ayuda a los padres a pasar las crudas vacaciones de invierno. De lo que no carece el filme es de físicos femeninos y a los encantos de Pamela David y Luciana Salazar, Ledo se encargó de que en un 70 por ciento de las escenas aparezcan la cola o las lolas de alguna otra chica bien dotada. Una de las escenas más bizarras de la cinta es la de Pamela David haciendo malabares con una espada ninja. La morocha seduce a los espectadores cuando aparece vestida con un catusuit de cuero negro. Mientras que Salazar aporta sus tradicionales caritas de niña ingenua, enloqueciendo a Disi y al resto del elenco. Una “gordita” buena que sufre una transformación. Estrellas de rock se unen contra cambio climático

EAST RUTHERFORD, EEUU (Reuters) - Algunas de las estrellas pop más importantes del mundo se presentaron el sábado en la serie de conciertos Live Earth, donde se intenta convencer a los amantes de la música y a los gobiernos para que luchen contra el cambio climático.
Decenas de miles de personas se reunieron en Sídney, Tokio, Shanghái, Hamburgo, Johannesburgo, Londres, Washington y Nueva Jersey para escuchar las presentaciones de The Police, Bon Jovi, James Blunt, Linkin Park, Madonna, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers y Shakira, entre otros.
Encabezado por el ex vicepresidente estadounidense y activista del medioambiente Al Gore, el mega evento se realizó en nueve ciudades, duró más de 22 horas y finalizó en la playa de Copacabana en Río de Janeiro y en un estadio de Nueva Jersey.
"Ustedes son Live Earth," dijo Gore a la multitud en el Estadio de fútbol americano de los Gigantes de Nueva Jersey, en medio del sofocante calor sobre un escenario hecho con neumáticos reciclados.
Con una mano levantada como si hiciera un juramento, Gore realizó un compromiso de siete puntos que desea que otros respalden, obligándolos a reducir las emisiones de carbono y a presionar a gobiernos y funcionarios para que hagan más cosas por salvar al planeta.

Miss New Jersey, Amy Polumbo, Blackmail Photos

As you can see from the front pages of a couple of U.S. tabloids shown below Amy Polumbo, the current Miss New Jersey, is big news. There she is with a big smile and wearing a red bikini.

Why is she news? After all she's just another pretty girl.

It's because Amy Polumbo claims that someone is using photographs she posted on the Internet to try to force her to give up her crown.

"Photos?" you may ask.

Yes photos. 22-year-old Amy said she received copies of between six and 12 of her photos in the mail on June 25 with a letter threatening to make them public unless she gives up her crown to the pageant's first runner-up.

"They must be some hot photos," you may assume.

Appears not. Her attorney, Anthony R. Caruso, would not describe the photos, except to say that they aren't lewd. They are pictures Amy Polumbo posted in a private section of an Internet photo-sharing site so her friends and family could see them.

Okay, if they are not lewd what's the problem? How can anyone blackmail her over photos suitable for friends and family?

Even Amy's aunt, Cathy Capper, reckons that the photos are not at all revealing. She said her niece appeared in less clothing during the Miss New Jersey pageant when she won her title.

If all of this is true, about the photos, it's difficult to understand what all of the fuss is about. Let the guy (or girl) publish the photos if there is nothing to fear. Think of the publicity - ah, publicity ...
